1 dead following fatal moose crash on T.C.H. near Chapel Arm

A 53-year-old woman is dead after the vehicle she was driving crashed into a moose on Newfoundland’s Avalon Peninsula in the early hours of Monday.

In a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police say officers from its Placentia-Whitbourne detachment responded to the collision around 2:45 a.m. NT. along the Trans Canada Highway near the Chapel Arm exit.

The vehicle’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The local fire department and emergency medical services personnel were also at the site of the crash.

In addition, the RCMP’s collision reconstructionist was present at the scene. The chief medical examiner is involved.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
