1 person killed, another injured in collision involving SUV and scooter in Whitehorse
RCMP say collision happened Saturday evening in Copper Ridge neighbourhood
Police in Whitehorse say a person was killed and another injured in a collision involving an SUV and an electric kick scooter on the weekend.
A news release from RCMP and the territory's coroner on Monday says the collision happened just after 7 p.m. on Saturday, on Lazulite Drive at Garnet Crescent in the city's Copper Ridge neighbourhood.
Police say two people were on the scooter and one of them was killed in the collision. The other was medevaced out of the territory for care.
Officials have not identified the two victims involved. Residents who live near the crash site told CBC News on Monday that the person killed was a girl.
A portion of Lazulite Drive was closed for several hours as police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded at the scene.
RCMP say an investigation is ongoing, but they have so far "not identified any indication of a criminal offence."
No other details have been released.
