'Three precious lives were lost,' community's chief says
Three people have died in a vehicle rollover on a First Nations community northeast of Regina.
A Punnichy RCMP news release said around 2:55 a.m. Sunday, police were notified of the rollover on George Gordon First Nation.
Officers and STARS air ambulance responded, but the people in the vehicle were declared dead at the scene.
Police identified them as a 42-year old woman and two 43-year old men, all from the community, located about 120 kilometres northeast of Regina.
Two other people were taken to hospital by EMS, with injuries described as minor, the release said.
Punnichy RCMP continue to investigate with the assistance of a Saskatchewan RCMP collision reconstructionist.
Shawn Longman, the chief of George Gordon, posted a statement on Facebook offering condolences and prayers.
"Three precious lives were lost. Families, children and loved ones' lives are forever changed in an instant," Longman said.
As of Sunday there have been 53 fatal collisions so far this year on roads policed by Saskatchewan RCMP, in which 66 people have died, the release said.
