‘A new category of threat’: Former ASD boss warns business on AI hack

The country’s former top cyber spy says revelations that artificial intelligence agents built by OpenAI decided autonomously to hack an Australian government website have opened a new category of threat that boards and executives must quickly understand.

Rachel Noble, who was director-general of the Australian Signals Directorate until 2024, has signed on as an adviser at cybersecurity consulting firm Island Bell after it secured a multimillion-dollar investment from LVP Funds as the private equity firm builds out a portfolio of IT companies.
