Aditi Shankar garners praise for thoughts on cinema and viewing culture; Here's what she said
Actor Aditi Shankar, who is currently awaiting the release of her long-delayed Once More, shared her thoughts on the difference between viewing cinema as a critical medium and experiencing it purely as entertainment.
In a recent interview with Baradwaj Rangan, Aditi said she believes cinema does not always have to stay close to reality, pointing out that audiences approach films from different perspectives.
Speaking about how people watch movies, Aditi said that those who look at cinema from a critical point of view may constantly analyse whether the events on screen make sense and expect the next scene to follow logically. However, she noted that not every viewer watches a film with the same mindset.
"There are so many people who want to watch it for entertainment. It is like going to an amusement park, like going shopping," Aditi said.
She further added, "They pay Rs 140, have popcorn and are relieved that their kids will keep quiet for three hours. They are happy to spend that three hours. It is an escape from their everyday lives."
Her latest comments have gone viral and is being shared widely with many supporting her take on audience's viewing culture.
Aditi was last seen in Nesippaya (2025), directed by Vishnuvardhan where she starred alongside debutant Akash Murali, Atharvaa's younger brother. Later, she made her Telugu debut with Bhairavam. Her upcoming movie Once More, where she shares screen with Arjun Das, was announced in 2024. The romantic film was delayed multiple times and is now slated for release on August 28.
