Aions Ventures Launches USD 6.1 M Seed Fund To Back South African Tech Startups
South African venture capital firm Aions Ventures has launched Aions Seed Fund I, a ZAR 100 M (USD 6.1 million) fund aimed at backing early-stage technology startups and helping bridge the funding gap between initial traction and Series A.
The fund will invest in startups operating across the digital economy, climate and environmental sustainability, energy innovation, and alternative water solutions.
The vehicle includes ZAR 60 M (USD 3.7 M) from the High Impact Seed Fund of Funds (HISFoF), managed by the SA SME Fund and backed by the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) and E Squared Investments, alongside a further ZAR 40 M (USD 2.5 M) direct commitment from TIA.
Beyond capital, Aions Ventures says it will provide founders with operational support, governance oversight, and financial discipline to prepare businesses for follow-on investment.
