AirBadminton to Make Historic World Games Debut in 2029

AirBadminton will make its debut at The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 19-29 July after being included among the 36 sports and 62 disciplines confirmed by the International World Games Association (IWGA).

Around 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete in Karlsruhe, showcasing the very best of The World Games movement.

The inclusion marks a significant milestone for AirBadminton, which was launched by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) in May 2019 alongside the specially developed AirShuttle.

Created to expand opportunities for badminton beyond traditional indoor settings, AirBadminton has grown around the world as both a competitive and recreational outdoor format of the sport.

The announcement follows the successful staging of the inaugural BWF AirBadminton World Cup in December 2025 and will see AirBadminton feature on the programme of a major international multi-sport Games for the first time.

AirBadminton had previously been included in the programme for the ANOC World Beach Games 2023 before the event was cancelled.

The World Games is the world’s leading multi-sport Games for sports and disciplines not currently included in the Olympic Games sports programme.

The addition of AirBadminton to the Karlsruhe 2029 programme provides a new platform for more badminton players from around the world to compete on the global stage.
