Al Potter, N.L. man serving life sentence for murder, dies in Quebec prison
Potter was serving a life sentence for killing Dale Porter
Al Potter, a Newfoundland and Labrador man serving a life sentence for murder, has died in prison.
Potter died on Wednesday, according to a news release from Correctional Service Canada. He was 63.
Potter was convicted of first-degree murder in 2019 for killing 39-year-old Dale Porter in 2014. He had been serving a life sentence at Donnacona Institution in Donnacona, Que.
As recently as 2021, Potter had worked to appeal the conviction, an attempt that was rejected by the Supreme Court of Canada.
CBC News has asked for more information. Correctional Service Canada said in the news release that Potter's death will be investigated, which is the case when any inmate dies in custody.
