Antigua police link robbery patterns to crimes in Jamaica

ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Police say some robberies in Antigua and Barbuda appear similar to crimes committed elsewhere in the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Lisbon Michael made the observation on Saturday during an appearance on a local radio show.

Referring to a recent armed robbery on All Saints Road, Michael said the firearm used was of a type not commonly seen in Antigua and Barbuda in recent years.

He said the weapon and the manner in which the robbery was carried out were consistent with patterns observed in Jamaica.

However, the senior police officer did not suggest that Jamaican nationals were responsible for the robbery or provide any evidence regarding the suspects’ nationality.

Michael called for regional law enforcement agencies to review their memoranda of understanding and strengthen cooperation.

He also recommended more rigorous screening and background checks for people entering Antigua and Barbuda.
