Arab Forum on Advancing Anti-Corruption Prevention Efforts Discusses Integrity, Transparency, Technology in Doha

Doha, September 22 (QNA) - The sixth session of the Arab Forum on Advancing Anti-Corruption Prevention Efforts in the Public Sector, currently being hosted in Doha, discussed ways to promote integrity and transparency and harness technology and artificial intelligence in efforts to prevent corruption.

The forum was held as part of the sixth Session of the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, with the participation of officials, experts and specialists from several Arab and foreign countries and international organizations.

The forum focused on strengthening preventive efforts against corruption in the public sector by examining institutional, legislative and technological issues, exchanging experiences, reviewing practices related to promoting integrity and transparency, and developing institutional mechanisms.

The forum's sessions addressed four main areas: promoting institutional integrity; enhancing transparency and access to information; leveraging technology, artificial intelligence and modern technological solutions in efforts to prevent corruption; and strengthening institutional integration between parliamentary councils and anti-corruption bodies.

The first session, titled "Codes of Conduct: Implementation and Impact on Public-Sector Integrity," examined the implementation of codes of conduct and their role in promoting integrity. It also reviewed the experiences of several Arab countries in this area, with the participation of specialists from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and representatives from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman and Iraq.

The second session, titled "Challenges and Opportunities in Facilitating Access to Information," addressed the challenges and opportunities associated with facilitating access to information and its impact on promoting transparency and institutional practices in the public sector. Specialists from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Qatar University and Hamad Bin Khalifa University participated, along with a presentation on Qatar's experience in this area.

The third session, titled "Opportunities Offered by Artificial Intelligence in Anti-Corruption Prevention Efforts," examined the potential of artificial intelligence technologies to support and advance corruption-prevention efforts, as well as related modern technological solutions. Experts from the United Nations Development Programme and international academics participated in the session.

The fourth session, titled "The Relationship Between Parliamentary Councils and Anti-Corruption Bodies," highlighted the relationship between parliamentary councils and anti-corruption bodies and emphasized the importance of cooperation and institutional integration in supporting integrity and anti-corruption systems. Arab officials and parliamentarians participated in the session.

The Conference of the States Parties to the Arab Convention Against Corruption is scheduled to conclude its work Wednesday in Doha.

The conference serves as an Arab institutional framework for following up on the implementation of the convention's provisions, strengthening coordination and cooperation among States Parties, and exchanging expertise and successful practices in preventing and combating corruption. (QNA)
