At Heidelberg, artificial intelligence is being incorporated into work-study programs

Heidelberg is expanding its workforce with 80 new apprentices and work-study students in Germany. The start of the 2026 academic year is also marked by the launch of a new program focused on data science and artificial intelligence.

For the start of the 2026 school year, Heidelberg is welcoming 80 new apprentices and students enrolled in work-study programs at its various locations in Germany. Heidelberg is counting on these new recruits in particular for its activities in packaging printing and digital printing, as well as in security, energy, electric mobility, and automation. The printing press manufacturer is currently training more than 300 young people in Germany, spread across 16 vocational training programs and 15 work-study programs.

This new academic year also marks the launch of a work-study program focused on data science and artificial intelligence (AI). Heidelberg aims to strengthen its expertise in data analysis, digitization, and AI-related applications through this program. It also supports the new business activities of Heidelberg Advanced Technologies.

Patrick Höflein was one of the first students in the program. He had previously completed a vocational training program in computer science at Heidelberg, specializing in data and process analysis. Heidelberg states that it tailors its training programs to its long-term hiring needs. Apprentices and students, in particular, benefit from regular development meetings and opportunities for internal career advancement. The manufacturer also involves its new hires in social and environmental projects carried out with regional partners.

Applications are now being accepted for vocational training programs and work-study programs set to begin in September 2027.
