BBC Scotland presenter Amy Irons expecting first baby
BBC Scotland presenter Amy Irons has announced she is expecting her first baby.
She broke the news on BBC Radio Scotland's The Saturday Show which she presents alongside co-host Steven Mill.
The 35-year-old and her partner Elliot, 38, said they were thrilled to be welcoming a baby boy.
"I'm delighted to be preparing for the most important job I'll ever do," she added.
"Elliot and I can't wait to meet our little bundle of joy next year and it's so nice to be able to share the good news with the lovely audience!"
Her co-host said he had been "sworn to secrecy for about two months now".
"I think you'll be an amazing mum," Steven told her.
After hearing she was expecting a boy, Amy said she was "continuing the family tradition".
"I have four brothers, loads of boy cousins and a nephew Ronan. So naturally it was always going to be a boy, wasn't it?"
Speaking on the radio show, she said it was a struggle to hide the news from her colleagues during World Cup coverage in the US over the summer.
"I wanted to get through that first trimester, get to the scan and we wanted to make sure things were OK," Amy added.
But she said the reaction from friends and family had been "amazing".
Amy presents the weekly radio show as well as being a newsreader on BBC Reporting Scotland.
She also presents other BBC programmes such as Hogmanay and the award-winning sports podcast Sacked in the Morning which she co-presents with former footballer and manager Craig Levein.
Details of who will be Amy's maternity cover on The Saturday Show will be announced in due course.
