Bompastor on ‘great feeling’ of winning World Sevens | News

Sonia Bompastor thoroughly enjoyed her first taste of the World Sevens Football tournament, and she was even more pleased Chelsea emerged victorious.

Held at Brentford’s Gtech Stadium and contested over three days, the seven-a-side games gave Bompastor and her players something different to think about.

The Blues rose to the challenge, progressing to the last four where we thumped Aston Villa 8-2, before overturning a deficit to edge past Manchester United 6-5 in the final.

It meant Chelsea’s campaign concluded with fresh silverware and a smile on Bompastor’s face.

‘It’s a great feeling,’ said the head coach.

‘It’s not easy to end the season on a high. This tournament was a new opportunity for us to finish with really good vibes. We had really good fun.

‘The final was intense. Both teams did well, and it was a great final for the fans with lots of goals. Obviously we were not winning until the very end so it was great to score in the last minute.

‘I'm convinced we'll bring some of the vibes we had in this tournament into next season.’

It was a late brace from Aggie Beever-Jones that secured the trophy. The striker was named the Most Valuable Player at the tournament and won the Golden Boot with seven goals scored across our five games.

‘It’s good for her and she deserved that,’ said Bompastor.

‘I'm happy because you get these individual recognitions, but I think all the team worked hard for her to be in that position as well.’
