British Airways plane heading to Seattle diverted to Iqaluit due to 'technical issue'

A British Airways plane that was heading from London to Seattle was diverted to Iqaluit on Thursday due to "a technical issue."

In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for British Airways said the diversion was a precaution, but did not specify on what the technical issue was.

"Teams are working hard to establish the best way of getting our customers to where they need to be as quickly as possible," the statement read.

The statement did not say how many customers were stranded in Iqaluit or how long they have been stuck there.

The Nunavut government issued a news release Thursday evening, acknowledging the diversion, but offering no additional information.

The news release said questions around the diversion should be directed to British Airways.
