Call for Amendments to the News Bargaining Incentive
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia has raised concerns about the Australian Government’s proposed News Bargaining Incentive (NBI), warning the scheme could exclude community broadcasters while directing funding towards large commercial media organisations.
In response, CBAA has joined with other independent media organisations to advocate for changes that would better support media diversity and the sustainability of community-based journalism. This includes a joint statement and formal submissions to government consultations on the proposed legislation and Statutory Payments Scheme.
The recommendations support the sector’s broader vision to strengthen trusted local journalism and ensure underserved communities continue to have access to independent news and information.
