Calvin Harris recognised for 1.6m world record DJ set crowd

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris has been celebrating writing his name into the record books after performing for an estimated 1.6m people in Sao Paulo earlier this year.

The musician from Dumfries received recognition from Guinness World Records (GWR) for the largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist.

He took to social media to highlight the award for what he described as a "truly insane day" which he said could only have happened in Brazil.

GWR said it had been reported that his headline appearance had forced the closure of the Rua da Consolação with some fans fainting in the heat.

Harris has already been recognised for a number of other records in the past.

In 2014, GWR presented him with a certificate for most top 10 hits on the UK singles chart from one album for 18 Months which produced no fewer than nine.

It also lists him as the highest paid DJ in one year for his earnings between June 2015 and 2016.

GWR said Harris had turned Sao Paulo into "one massive street party" by climbing on board a carnival float for his performance on 8 February 2026.

Wearing a Brazilian football shirt with the name Calvinho on the back he worked his way through a setlist featuring many of his biggest hits.

The record book also noted that a similar-sized crowd attended Madonna's free concert on Copacabana Beach in May 2024 during her Celebration Tour.
