Canada closes border to Texas livestock as New World Screwworm parasite takes hold
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of disaster after a new case of the New World screwworm. Late Friday, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced that it's temporarily closing the border to Texas livestock to prevent the parasite's introduction and protect animal health. The screwworm fly lays its eggs in the open sores of animals, and its larvae feed on the flesh of their host. Global's Nathaniel Dove reports.
