Canada's run in the FIFA World Cup brings 'incredible excitement' to fans

Canada's men's soccer team are continuing a historic run at FIFA World Cup 2026, and fans old and new in St. John's say they're ready to keep the hype train rolling.

Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 in the Round of 32 on Sunday, clinched by a 92nd-minute winner from midfielder Stephen Eustáquio.

Cameron Ball, touring St. John's from Toronto — one of the tournament's host cities — said watching the goal was euphoric.

"[It's] just incredible excitement. And just joy, happiness and 'Go Canada!" Ball told CBC News Monday.

Ball and others will be watching Monday's results to see who Canada will face next. They are guaranteed to face the winner of Monday's match between Morocco and The Netherlands — both teams ranked in the Top 7 of FIFA's World Rankings.
