Census 2027 will inform policy, but it could also reshape India's politics
The much-awaited Census in India formally commenced on April 1. Originally scheduled for 2020, it was delayed due to the pandemic, with no clear explanation for subsequent postponements despite the normalization of economic activities. Nevertheless, the initiation of this process is a positive development.
From an economic perspective, the Census 2027 data will facilitate informed decision-making for both the government and private sectors. However, political aspects need careful management to maintain societal and cultural harmony.
