Child dead after drowning in Legacy Pond
A child has died following a drowning in a southeast Calgary pond.
Emergency crews responded to reports of a person submerged in Legacy Pond around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday. Bruce Barrs, Battalion Chief with the Calgary Fire Department, said when CFD arrived, a family member had pulled the child from the water. Fire crews performed resuscitation efforts and transferred patient care to EHS crews upon their arrival.
Stuart Brideaux, Public Education Officer with EHS Alberta, said when EHS arrived, the child was in critical and life-threatening condition — the agency requested Stars attend the scene.
"After some intervention by ground and air crews, the decision was made not to transport," said Brideaux.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
