Child drowns in southeast Calgary pond
Girl was pulled out of water in Legacy neighbourhood by family member
A child drowned in a pond Sunday afternoon, Emergency Health Services (EHS) and the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) say.
CFD batallion Chief Bruce Barrs said crews were dispatched just after 1 p.m. for reports of a person submerged in water along Legacy Main Street S.E.
When crews arrived at the pond, a girl was found in critical condition after being pulled out of the water by a family member.
Crews initiated CPR until EMS arrived, at which point firefighters transferred patient care to paramedics, but continued to assist with resuscitation.
"Unfortunately, the patient was declared deceased at the scene," Barrs said.
He said sonar equipment and a surface scan confirmed that nobody else had been submerged.
STARS air ambulance had also been called to the scene, but the helicopter did not transport a patient.
