Queen Street crossing remains blocked after 14 railcars derail
A Canadian National Railway train derailed in Truro, N.S., late Saturday, sending 14 railcars off the tracks and blocking the Queen Street crossing, according to the operator.
No injuries have been reported.
In a statement to CBC on Sunday, CN said crews and emergency responders arrived at the scene around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, with recovery efforts continuing overnight.
The derailment caused no leaks or fires, the statement said.
Three of the derailed railcars contain residual hydrogen peroxide but have been secured, posing no danger to public safety.
CN said it has brought in additional resources to assist with re-railing the cars. The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
CN has not yet announced when Queen Street will reopen, but said updates will follow.
Truro police issued a traffic alert on social media, advising motorists to avoid the area and take alternate routes until further notice.
