Concordia killer Valery Fabrikant dies in prison
Man who killed four fellow professors had been serving a life sentence since 1993
Valery Fabrikant, who killed four of his fellow professors at Concordia University in Montreal in 1992, died in prison.
In a statement to Radio-Canada, Correctional Service Canada said Fabrikant, detained at Quebec's Archambault Institution, died of "apparent natural causes" at the age of 86.
He had been serving a life sentence since June 8, 1993, according to Correctional Service Canada.
In August 1992, the former associate professor of mechanical engineering shot and killed four of his fellow professors. He also injured a secretary in the shooting.
Convicted killer Fabrikant pursues lawsuit
Since his conviction and imprisonment, Fabrikant has been denied parole more than once.
In 2014, his appeal, seeking a reduction in his sentence, was denied by the Court of Appeal. Another appeal attempt failed in 2020.
