Transport truck and sedan collided north of Aylmer, Ont., Tuesday, OPP says

A constable in training from Durham Regional Police is dead and another is in life-threatening condition after a collision north of Aylmer, Ont., on Tuesday, police say.

Both were travelling the Ontario Police College in the Township of Malahide when the collision happened, Durham police Chief Peter Moreira said on social media platform X on Tuesday.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, a transport truck and a sedan collided at the intersection of College Line and Imperial Road in the township. Elgin OPP were sent to the scene at about 11:20 a.m.

One person in the sedan was pronounced dead while the second person in the sedan was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, the OPP said. The transport driver was not hurt.

Moreira said police continue to investigate the collision.

"During this difficult time, our focus is on supporting the families of our CIT's, as well as their classmates, instructors, friends, and members of our Service who are grieving this tragic loss. We will continue to ensure they receive the care and support they need," Moreira said.

"We ask that the public respect the privacy of the families and all those affected as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy, and as notifications continue."

Roads in the area are closed for the investigation.
