Crews find plane in Kawartha Lakes region as search for missing pilot continues

Plane found on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, search and rescue centre says

Search and rescue officials say they've found a plane in the Kawartha Lakes region where a pilot is believed to have gone missing after flying in the area last week.

In a post to social media platform X Monday, the Trenton Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), which coordinates air and marine search and rescue operations across Ontario, said a plane was found on Wolf Lake in Queen Elizabeth II Provincial Park, which is about a 45-minute drive north of the Kawartha Lakes municipality.

The case is now with Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) as a missing person's case, the JRCC said in its post. It did not directly specify whether the plane belonged to the missing 73-year-old pilot, identified by police as David.

Durham police said in a post on X Saturday that David left the Oshawa Airport in the plane at 8:30 a.m. Friday and was expected to return at 9:30 a.m.

Police also said he usually flies in the area south of Kawartha Lakes township and north of Lake Scugog.

Ontario Provincial Police previously said the plane is a small blue homemade aircraft with "FOFZ" written on its tail.

David is described by police as an experienced pilot who is five feet seven inches tall with a slim build. He has black grey hair and a moustache.
