David Faucher, man wanted in N.L. on 1st degree murder charge, arrested in Saskatchewan

Faucher accused of 2023 killing of Franz Drosch of Happy Valley-Goose Bay

Following his arrest in Saskatchewan, police say arrangements are being made to send David Faucher to Newfoundland and Labrador to face a charge of first-degree murder in the 2023 death of Franz Drosch of Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Faucher was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant and, as recently as Aug. 11, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police noted they were still looking for the man.

In a statement from the RCMP, issued Friday at about 5 p.m., police say Faucher was arrested by the Saskatchewan Marshalls Service. Saskatchewan RCMP also assisted in the case.

Believed to originally be from Sherbrooke, Que., RCMP issued notice in June that Faucher had been charged with the first-degree murder of 43-year-old Drosch.

RCMP accused Faucher of "actively evading police."

Police say they will not be releasing details to the public on Faucher's arrest to ensure the integrity of the investigation, "however, we anticipate providing an additional update when it is appropriate to do so."
