Economic catalyst | Innovation hub to power next generation of startups

THE Reserve Bank of Fiji (RBF) has unveiled the new Fiji Innovation Hub space at the central bank’s building in Suva in a move to strengthen the country’s innovation ecosystem and the next generation of entrepreneurs and startups.

The new hub will provide a central platform where innovators, startups, development partners and industry stakeholders can connect, collaborate, and access needed support to transform ideas into scalable solutions.

RBF governor Ariff Ali said the creation of a dedicated environment was a significant move where innovation could thrive, and entrepreneurs could access the support needed to turn ideas into impactful solutions.

“Innovation is no longer a peripheral issue. It is central to Fiji’s economic future,” Mr Ali said in his address.

“This space will serve as a hub for innovation, driving economic opportunities and providing a platform to leverage technology in addressing Fiji’s economic challenges.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Industries, Commerce, Business Development and Public Enterprises Manoa Kamikamica officiated at the event, and reiterated the Government’s commitment to fostering innovation as a driver of economic resilience, productivity and competitiveness.

“The Fiji Innovation Hub serves as a catalyst for driving this agenda forward and fostering sustainable economic growth,” Mr Kamikamica said.

Ambassador of the European Union to the Pacific Barbara Plinkert said: “Fiji Innovation Hub brings elements that the global gateway activities and the learnings from the EU-Pacific Business Forum have echoed – connectivity, digital transformation, resilience and sustainable economic development.”

The event also recognised the contributions of the Fiji Innovation Hub’s partners who were instrumental in establishing the hub’s new premises and advancing its successful pilot year.

The launch brought together representatives from Government, development partners, the private sector, financial institutions and the entrepreneurial community to celebrate the opening of a facility that will serve as a catalyst for innovation, enterprise development and economic opportunity.

During the event, Mr Kamikamica also announced the addition of two new partners – the Ministry of Policing and Communications, and the Fiji Development Bank that have committed to provide sponsorship support for the Fiji Innovation Hub’s second year activities.
