Emphasis on intellectual property in startups

This involves proactively registering intellectual property rights (IPR) early on for trademarks, industrial designs, inventions, copyrights, domain names, etc., to protect brands and mitigate legal risks during business operations. Emphasis should be placed on building brands linked to product quality, production standards, traceability, digital transformation, and market reputation. In the current context, branding is a core competitive value for businesses. Simultaneously, businesses need to pay more attention to intellectual property management, especially data management, trade secrets, digital assets, and compliance with IPR laws in advertising, e-commerce, and production and business activities.

In the era of integration and digital transformation, intellectual property is becoming one of the core factors determining the competitiveness and sustainable development of businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups.

Therefore, businesses need to fully identify their intellectual property assets such as trademarks, patents, designs, software, data, algorithms, trade secrets, technical processes, and digital content. Only with proper identification can businesses determine which assets need to be registered, which need to be kept confidential, and which can be commercially exploited.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, a member of the City's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council and Director of Nai House Co., Ltd. (in Long Binh ward), many startups and businesses in the locality have paid more attention to basic issues of intellectual property rights. However, in the context of the increasing development of science and technology and e-commerce, this attention needs to be further enhanced to elevate products and brands and reduce risks and legal disputes related to copyright and intellectual property.

Besides investing in branding, logo design, and slogans, startups and new businesses also need to pay attention to registering website domain names, especially ".vn" domains, as well as intellectual property issues on digital platforms and e-commerce.

Associate Professor Dr. Tu Diep Cong Thanh further stated: In the digital age, intellectual property is not only a legal protection tool but also a strategic asset that helps businesses enhance their value, competitiveness, and sustainable development. Therefore, businesses in general and startups in particular need to establish their rights promptly, within the correct scope, and in the right market. Important assets need to be researched, evaluated, and registered early, especially before launching products, raising capital, transferring technology, or exporting.
