ESX Entertainment’s ‘Casa Grande’ Movie Starring Lou Diamond Phillips Sets Theatrical Release
EXCLUSIVE: ESX Entertainment has a feature version of its Freevee series Casa Grande, and it’s getting released in theaters May 1.
The Juan Pablo Arias Munoz-directed movie follows a prodigal daughter who returns to her family’s ranch as her ailing father faces a ruthless bid for his property from a powerful rival, sparking a land war that could cost both families everything.
The movie stars Lou Diamond Phillips, John Pyper-Ferguson, Madison Lawlor, Christina Moore, Javier Bolaños, Kate Mansi, Daniel Edward Mora, Loren Escandon, Bruce Davison, Shalim Ortiz and Charley Debenedetti.
Producers are ESX’s Ali Afshar, Moore, Daniel Aspromonte and Ava Rettke. EP is Lauren Swickard.
Three years ago, it was announced that Amazon Freevee would stream the bilingual series Casa Grande, which examined everyday realities and conflicts between California’s migrant workforce and the landowners who reap the profits. That series was created by Swickard (A California Christmas) and Afshar, and followed the intertwining lives of various families in the farmlands of Northern California. The series was billed as an “upstairs/downstairs story transposed from turn-of-the century English countryside to rural America.” The series starred Pyper-Ferguson (The 100, Suits), Moore (That ‘70s Show, 90210), Lawlor (Juniper), Karen Bethzabe (Babylon), Bolaños (All American), Raquel Dominguez (Chicago Med), James Marsters (Buffy The Vampire Slayer), Mansi (Days of Our Lives), Daniel Edward Mora (Coco), Escandon (The Baxters) and Afshar (He’s Just Not That Into You).
