Extra patrols to tackle rise in fires in park
Extra police patrols will be brought in after a rise in fires started by young people in a park in South Wigston.
Oadby and Wigston Police said it had received reports of 11 fires being started in the last three months at Blaby Road Park - with six in the last month alone.
The policing team said it was investigating the fires and asked parents to be aware of what items children were taking out with them.
Officers added those found responsible for starting fires would be dealt with "robustly".
A spokesperson said: "This behaviour is not acceptable and turns what is meant to be a safe area for children to play into a vandalised, unpleasant space.
"Not to mention the waste of time this causes to the fire service who have to keep attending.
"We will be increasing patrols in this area and we are making inquiries into additional CCTV."
