Fire closes Moray high school as council assesses damage

A secondary school in Moray will be closed on Monday and Tuesday after a fire broke out over the weekend.

Moray Council said the blaze at Keith Grammar School took hold on Friday evening.

They said initial investigations suggested it was not deliberate, but would need to see a full report to confirm the cause. There were no reported casualties.

Work is taking place over the weekend to assess the damage and to ensure the safety of the building. It is not yet clear when the school will reopen.

A council spokesperson said arrangements for pupils would be shared with parents and carers as soon as possible.

Keith Sports & Community Centre had a delayed opening on Saturday as a result of the fire.

The council praised those who raised the alarm and thanked firefighters who brought the flames under control quickly.
