Galaxy Entertainment says live events lift weekend footfall by up to 40%

Local media outlet Macao Daily News reported the figures on Wednesday, citing an interview with Jeffrey Jiang, executive vice president of entertainment services at Galaxy Entertainment.

Galaxy Arena, Broadway Theatre and G Box hosted 74 entertainment and sporting events during the first seven months of 2026, covering 109 event days and attracting more than 560,000 attendees.

When conventions, exhibitions and other activities were included, the number of event days reached 170 during the period.

Events at Galaxy Arena also generated more than 6 million ‘want to see’ indications on major mainland Chinese ticketing platforms, placing the venue among the country’s leading event destinations by that measure, according to the report.

Jiang said most concerts, sporting events, music performances and comedy shows were held on weekends, generating additional spending across the integrated resort.

Food and beverage table turnover and reservations during an event weekend earlier this month were significantly higher than during weekends without events, he said. Retail outlets also recorded additional business from event audiences.

Galaxy’s latest financial results provide broader context for the reported spending impact, although the company does not separately disclose revenue generated by concerts or other events.

Group non-gaming revenue rose by 7.4 percent year-on-year to HK$3.40 billion ($436 million) in the first half of 2026, according to its interim results announcement.

At Galaxy Macau, revenue from hotels, food and beverage operations and other activities increased by 6.9 percent to HK$2.31 billion ($296 million), while mall revenue rose by 17.5 percent to HK$779 million ($99.9 million). The company did not attribute those increases specifically to its event schedule.

Speaking at the Asian IR Expo in May, Jiang said sports and entertainment events had developed into broader tourism platforms capable of supporting spending at integrated resorts and surrounding businesses.

He said more than 65 percent of live entertainment and sports audiences traveled across cities to attend events, while over 55 percent of Galaxy’s entertainment customers came from the Greater Bay Area, mainly Guangdong province.
