Gatineau police warn of fake parking ticket scam
Phony fine detected at municipal courthouse before payment, police say
Gatineau, Que., police are reminding the public about how to properly handle parking fines after someone recently brought a counterfeit ticket to the city's municipal courthouse.
The person avoided being scammed by bringing it in, police said.
Genuine Gatineau parking tickets will be three pages long, police said, and will include the following:
Scammers will often put QR codes or website links on fake tickets, police said, or ask for detailed personal information.
The safest way to pay a fine is to go directly to the city website or to the courthouse, police said.
