Before AI became commonplace, it would have searched Internet encyclopedias and related books, pointed out the causal relationship between the situation and events at the time, and organized the significance of the war history by itself. This was the process of feeling intellectual joy.

But so naturally, I was horrified to see myself opening the ChatGPT window and typing the prompt, 'Explain the significance of the Battle of Balaklava and its impact on the entire Crimean War'. In less than a minute, AI gave a model answer to a topic that would have been exciting in the past, and I accepted it without doubt.

I make one more shameful confession. The first thing I did as soon as I got to work this morning was also asking AI, "How will it affect domestic politics, economy, and society today when I see global news overnight?" I was reduced to an audience member who stopped thinking for myself and uncritically consumed AI-generated answers. I don't remember when it was the first time I've done something called a true "reason" since I got used to AI.

Turns out it wasn't just me. In a recent report released by the MIT AI and Education Commission, it was defined as "Cognitive Surrender" as the phenomenon in which students give up thinking about themselves in the face of difficult tasks and leave them to AI to tell them the correct answer. With the help of tools such as calculators, but unlike human-led "Cognitive Offloading," cognitive surrender refers to the state of stopping the process of creating thoughts on one's own and uncritically accepting AI's answers as if they were my thoughts.

When AI gives the wrong answer, we can generally catch it. This is because obvious errors stimulate the critical senses of humans. The problem is when it is plausible. Smoothly organized narratives, moderately balanced conclusions, sentences familiar to me. Since I don't have doubts, I don't verify it, and I don't verify it, so AI's answer becomes my idea. I didn't think deeply, but I'm caught up in the illusion of a conclusion I made on my own.

Experts are coming up with various solutions to overcome this.
