TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Global Mixed-mode Technology Inc. will raise prices for its power management chips for the first time in five years as demand continues to outpace supply.
Chair Wu Jiin-chuan (吳錦川) said Thursday that rapid advances in artificial intelligence are driving demand across multiple industries. With global manufacturing capacity under pressure, shortages of power management chips have emerged, according to CTEE.
These chips, more commonly known as power management integrated circuits (PMICs), are used to manage electrical power in electronic devices, handling functions such as voltage conversion, distribution, and protection. They are widely used in smartphones, electric vehicles, servers, and industrial automation systems, according to DigiKey.
Wu said market supply has become increasingly tight and production costs have risen. After industry peers announced price hikes in early May, the company decided to follow suit.
Wu added that the third quarter is expected to mark the company’s peak performance this year. He said securing sufficient production capacity remains its biggest challenge and expects the market to remain undersupplied next year.
To meet customer demand, Wu said the company relies on semiconductor foundries in both Taiwan and South Korea for production. Output from South Korea currently accounts for about 20% to 30% of total supply, helping strengthen supply chain resilience.
