Govt scraps entertainment duty on movies, local theatre shows in federal territories
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, urged all state governments to adopt similar measures to support local creative talents.
He also said that more than RM130 million will be allocated to support the film, music and local creative content sectors.
“This includes incentives for local and international film and animation productions that shoot in Malaysia, as well as additional incentives for works that showcase Malaysian culture and national identity,” he said when tabling the 2027 budget in the Dewan Rakyat.
Anwar also said the local animation industry would be strengthened to develop 20 new intellectual properties (IPs) and promote Malaysian characters in international markets.
