Advocates with Dying with Dignity Canada are calling Wednesday a "profoundly disappointing day" after the federal government unveiled changes to its medical assistance in dying (MAiD) legislation. Ottawa confirmed that people whose only medical condition is a mental illness will remain ineligible for MAiD. Katherine Ward has this story and more in Health Matters for Oct. 8, 2026.
