Heavy rain across GTA Sunday: Environment Canada
Up to 40 millimetres of rain is expected across the Greater Toronto Area on Sunday
A special weather statement for heavy rain remains in effect throughout the Greater Toronto Area on Sunday, according to Environment Canada.
Lake effect showers moving off of Lake Huron and the Georgian Bay are bringing heavy rainfall lasting into Sunday evening. The national weather agency said an additional 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected.
Environment Canada first issued an initial weather statement at the start of the weekend, suggesting rainfall could exceed 50 millimetres.
Residents should watch out for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts, it said.
People should avoid driving through flooded roads and to be wary of water pooling on roads and low-lying areas, the agency added.
