Hong Kong Shares Advance on Tech Strength
The Hang Seng Index climbed 0.6%, or 146 points, to 25,035 on Thursday, rebounding from the previous session's losses as technology stocks led the market higher.
The rally was primarily driven by renewed buying in technology shares after recent profit-taking, with investors remaining optimistic about the long-term growth prospects of artificial intelligence and semiconductor-related companies.
Sentiment was further supported by continued fundraising activity among Chinese technology firms in Hong Kong, highlighting strong investor demand for AI and chipmakers despite recent market volatility.
The market also drew support from positive corporate news after Cathay Pacific projected a significantly stronger first-half profit, fueled by resilient passenger travel and cargo demand.
Notable gainers included Tencent (1.8%), Lenovo (6.6%), Z.Ai Co (3.7%), Kingboard Laminates (6.0%) and AIA (1.4%).
