Internationals: Buchanan starts as Canada thump Costa Rica | News | Official Site
Canada concluded their international window with a 6-0 victory over Costa Rica, while the USA beat Brazil 1-0 during a fiery encounter.
Blues forward Alyssa Thompson was an unused substitute in Fortaleza. Sophia Wilson forced an own goal to seal the narrow victory in Brazil after the USA had lost to the same opponent at the end of last week.
Tempers flared in added time as match referee Paola Cebollada Lopez showed four Brazil players a red card, and the official also sent off head coach Arthur Elias and three members of his staff.
Emma Hayes' side will now take a break from international competition until late November when they will face El Salvador in the Concacaf W Championship in their bid to qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup.
There was also a red card in Canada's trip to Cartago as Buchanan played 45 minutes after being named in the starting XI by head coach and former Blues defender Casey Stoney.
Forward Evelyne Viens gave Canada a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute, before Janine Sonis made it 2-0 shortly before the interval.
Costa Rica's Maria Paula Coto saw red seven minutes after the restart before Sonis completed her hat-trick with two penalties and Jordyn Huitema and Mimi Alidou rounded off the scoring late on.
