Is hosting FIFA World Cup Games worth it for B.C.?
The cost of hosting the FIFA World Cup in Vancouver has grown to over $700 million, up from estimates released in June 2025. The B.C. government said projected revenues, which include federal government funding of $100 million, are also higher and reduce net costs to a maximum of $114 million. Moshe Lander is a sports economist at Concordia University. He spoke to BC Today host Michelle Eliot, and called the revenue calculation a "shell game."
