Kincardine postpones Canada Day fireworks until August due to forecast

Due to forecasted thunderstorms on Canada Day, Kincardine’s fireworks have been postponed until Aug. 15.

The July 1 fireworks were originally postponed to July 3 because of the threat of severe weather. However, during the Canada Day storm, heavy rain and strong winds damaged some of the fireworks and equipment during their set up, the Municipality of Kincardine (MOK) revealed in a news release.

As setting up a fireworks display takes between seven and 10 hours and poor weather forecasted throughout the setup period on July 3, MOK decided it would not be safe for the crew to install the display, the release said.

“Safety has been our priority throughout this process. We know how much our community looks forward to the fireworks, and we share everyone’s disappointment. Rather than risk the safety of the fireworks crew, we’ve chosen to reschedule the display so residents and visitors can enjoy the full fireworks experience under safer conditions,” MOK said in the release.

The Municipality extended its “sincere appreciation” to Super Nova Fireworks Inc. for their flexibility and continued partnership in rescheduling the event and thanked the Kincardine Scottish Festival and Highland Games for their support in accommodating the original rescheduled date.

“The Municipality appreciates the patience and understanding of residents and visitors as we work through these weather-related challenges. We look forward to celebrating together on Saturday, August 15, when conditions will allow for the full fireworks display, our community deserves,” the release said.
