LensStory Opens Melbourne Virtual Production Studio

A new virtual production and broadcast studio has opened in Port Melbourne, bringing real-time virtual environments, cinematography, broadcast production and emerging production technologies together under one roof.

LensStory Broadcast & Content Studio, founded by Hemi Hossain, Co-Founder & CEO, and Masudur Rahman (Mas), Co-Founder, was officially launched on 1 October at an industry event attended by guests from television, media, film, business and Melbourne’s creative community.

The Hon. Steve Dimopoulos MP, Victorian Minister for Sport, Minister for Equality and Minister for WorkSafe and the TAC, attended as chief guest and officially opened the studio.

Television presenter and actor Christie Hayes hosted the evening, as guests experienced a live demonstration of how LensStory can transform a single physical production space into multiple virtual worlds.

Throughout the event, the studio moved between a virtual news studio, sports environment, outdoor location, branded LensStory stage and performance environment. A live dance performance was also integrated into one of the virtual sets, combining physical performance with a digitally created world.

Located at 4/200 Turner Street, Port Melbourne, LensStory has been developed as a full-service production facility rather than simply a physical studio space.

The facility combines a large-scale cyclorama and green-screen stage with real-time 3D virtual environments, camera tracking, an LED volume, cinema cameras, professional lighting and audio, and integrated broadcast production infrastructure.

The result is a production environment where filmmakers, television producers, agencies, brands and businesses can create dramatically different locations without having to physically build every set or move an entire production between locations.

Productions can range from television and broadcast programs to commercials, branded content, interviews, podcasts, corporate productions, education and training, product launches, live presentations and virtual events.

LensStory can also develop custom virtual environments around an individual production or brand.

Hemi Hossain, Co-Founder and CEO of LensStory, said the opening marked the beginning of a larger ambition for the company.

“LensStory brings storytelling, technology and production together in one environment. We want to give creators and businesses access to production possibilities that traditionally required much larger infrastructure, multiple locations and significantly more time.”

For Masudur Rahman (Mas), Co-Founder of LensStory, the purpose of the technology is ultimately to give creators greater freedom.

“We didn’t build LensStory because we wanted a room full of technology. We built it because we wanted fewer limits on what filmmakers, producers and brands can imagine.”

“The physical studio might stay exactly where it is, but what appears in front of the camera can become something completely different. That changes the conversation from ‘Where can we shoot this?’ to ‘What do we want to create?’”

LensStory’s broader vision is to combine traditional filmmaking and cinematography with real-time production technology and emerging AI-assisted creative workflows.

The studio has been designed to support both conventional production and projects created specifically around virtual production, allowing directors, producers and creative teams to determine how much – or how little – of the technology they want to incorporate.

Following its official opening, LensStory is now welcoming collaborations with television networks, production companies, filmmakers, advertising and creative agencies, brands and organisations looking to explore new approaches to content production.
