Leonardo DiCaprio, yes that Leo, announces investment in Swedish EnergyTech startup Elvy
Elvy, a Stockholm-based Energy-as-a-Service company focused on the household energy transition, announced an undisclosed investment from Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio – as well as the rollout of a customer referral platform.
This isn’t the first time Leo has supported a European EnergyTech startup; having backed the German residential solar provider Enpal in 2023.
The investment is part of a €1.43 million second close of their previously announced funding round. The announcement comes on the heels of a revenue increase of tenfold in 2025 when compared to the previous year.
“Leo has supported the energy space for a long time, his involvement is a strong vote of confidence in our potential to help build a better world. We’re super excited to welcome him on our journey”, says Johan Outinen, CEO and co-founder of Elvy.
Elvy’s undisclosed investment from Leonardo DiCaprio comes amid more than €160.9 million in company-level funding reported by EU-Startups during 2026 across European businesses working on household electrification, building energy efficiency and distributed energy management.
Notable rounds include €21 million for London-based Axle Energy to connect distributed energy assets to electricity markets, €15 million for Oslo-based Photoncycle to develop seasonal household solar storage, and €10 million for Berlin-based GALVANY to expand heat-pump installation and optimisation.
Separately, Berlin-based Cloover secured a €1.02 billion debt facility in January and a further €86.2 million financing facility in September to support residential energy deployment.
EU-Startups previously reported on Elvy’s €5.9 million funding round in May 2026 and its €500 million credit facility in December 2025.
“Elvy is demonstrating that energy efficiency can be both measurable for homeowners and scalable as a business”, adds Leonardo DiCaprio. “The company can reduce a household’s energy consumption by an average of 60%, creating potential impact at the household level, while advancing a new model for how energy can be produced, managed and consumed.”
Founded in 2023, Elvy installs smart, integrated energy systems and software, and makes it accessible through the world’s first energy subscription. The company aims to help households cut consumption, save money, and become active participants in Europe’s energy transition.
By combining hardware with optimisation software, Elvy enables households to manage their energy more intelligently while reducing consumption and costs.
“Today’s subsidies demand the consumer take on the financial burden of transitioning to renewables. Not only does it put the risk on the consumer, it also excludes everyone that doesn’t have that financial ability. With our app, consumers can earn money on speeding up the transition. We wish the government would enable this, but until then, we created our own subsidy program in order to democratise the energy transition,” says Johan.
According to the company, households consistently rank as Europe’s second-largest energy consumer, which points to the enormous savings potential in Elvy’s focus turning regular houses into flexible energy assets.
The company’s 10x revenue growth in 2025 marks a significant milestone as Elvy expands its model and works to bring integrated energy systems to more homes.
