Man arrested after woman found dead in Burlington, Ont., apartment, police say

Halton police say the suspect fled to Niagara Falls before being arrested Thursday morning

A woman in her 40s has been found dead inside a Burlington, Ont., apartment, police say, and a man in his 40s has been arrested.

Officers were called to an apartment near Guelph Line and Glencrest Road around 6:30 a.m. Thursday for a well-being check, Halton police said Thursday.

Officers found the woman's body inside the apartment.

Police say they identified a suspect who had left the apartment before officers arrived. Investigators determined the man had fled to the Niagara Falls area and contacted Niagara Regional Police.

Niagara police found and arrested the man around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say the woman and the suspect knew each other and that they are not looking for any more suspects.

"There is no associated risk to the public here," Const. Ryan Anderson told CBC Hamilton Thursday.

Anderson said the man remains in custody and charges are pending.

Police have not released the identity of the woman.

The death marks the second homicide in Halton Region this year, Anderson said.

"We will have more information on charges and details in the coming days as the investigation continues and unfolds," he said.

Investigators with Halton's Major Crime Bureau are asking anyone with information to call them or Crime Stoppers.
