Maple Ridge wrestler Ivy Threatful has been named to Team Canada for the U23 Pan-American Championships, coming up in Lima, Peru.
Wrestling Canada announced the team for the event on June 9, and it is coming up from June 11 to 13. There will be strong teams from Canada and the U.S., and the vent is a proving ground for elite young athletes.
“Wrestling Canada Lutte is excited to see one of our youngest U23 teams test themselves against some of the top athletes in the Pan American region,” said Chris Woodcroft, WCL High Performance Director. “For many members of this team, this will be their first opportunity to represent Canada internationally, making this a significant step in their development. Providing athletes with meaningful international competition experience is essential to their long-term growth, and building a deeper pool of internationally tested athletes will be a key factor in strengthening our performances in the years ahead.”
Threatful, 5’2”, wrestles in the 50kg weight class. She was a high school champion with the Maple Ridge Ramblers, winning provincial gold in 2020. She joined Simon Fraser University wrestling in the 2021-2022 school year.
Thretful was named a Hometown Hero in 2024, with a resume that included winning a Cadet national championship as a Grade 10 in 2019, another gold at nationals in 2023, and finished fourth at the Junior Pan Ams in Chile that same year.
She is the only BC woman on the team headed for the Pan-Ams.
The 2026 U23 World Wrestling Championships will be in Las Vegas, Nevada in October.
