Moneycontrol Startup Conclave: AI safety concerns growing as models get smarter, says Emergent's Mukund Jha
The rapid pace of artificial intelligence development is raising serious concerns around AI safety, while AI agents could emerge as one of the biggest use cases in the future of work, according to Emergent founder Mukund Jha.
Speaking to Moneycontrol's Managing Editor Nalin Mehta at the third edition of the Moneycontrol Startup Conclave, Jha said, "things are pretty serious" from an AI safety perspective, adding that AI models will become smarter and vulnerabilities will also increase.
"The pace of AI is really going fast," Jha said. "I don't think AI pace will slow down since the pressure is high on frontier AI companies." Jha also said India is lagging in AI safety.
"India is generally behind AI safety," he said. On Emergent's business, Jha said the company is expanding rapidly and seeing success with its small businesses platform.
"Our business is moving really fast," he said, adding that the company is "seeing success in our small businesses platform."
"We are going heavy on open source," Jha said. Jha said persistent AI agents working for customers could become the largest use case for artificial intelligence.
"Persistent AI agents working for customers is going to emerge as the largest use case," he said.
"Lot of the work humans will do are going to planning, strategy as AI agents cordinate better," Jha added.
On Emergent's international business, Jha said the UK is growing quickly, while the US remains its largest market. India currently contributes around 8-10 per cent of the company's revenue.
"UK is growing fast for us, US is the largest market," he said. "India is about 8-10% of our revenue."
Jha also highlighted the growing focus on sovereign AI models.
"I think the nationalism in sovereign AI models, to supercharge people," he said.
On the company's investments, Jha said a significant portion is going towards hiring talent and highlighted the productivity gains possible with AI.
"Lot of our investment is in hiring talent," he said.
"Single engineer can build in 2-3 days which I thought could've taken months," Jha added.
