More Japanese companies report personal data breaches
More Japanese companies have reported data breaches due to unauthorized access, including major convenience store operator Lawson.
Lawson said on Thursday that more than 2.15 million customer records were illicitly accessed. Names, email addresses and credit card information were potentially leaked.
Daiichikosho, operator of the Big Echo karaoke chain, says malware at a business outsourcing company might have exposed 8.72 million personal records.
NewsPicks operator Uzabase also reported that personal information of some users may have been exposed. The company says the breach occurred due to unauthorized access to a management tool.
The three firms say no illegal use has been confirmed so far.
Japan's education ministry says eight schools across the country, mostly universities, reported data breaches from late September through Thursday.
