NMC to set up incubation centre to boost startup ecosystem

Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan- NMC headquarters Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), in a move aimed at strengthening the city’s innovation ecosystem and encouraging entrepreneurship among youth, has initiated the process of establishing the Nashik Incubation Centre (NIC).The proposed facility is expected to provide necessary support to aspiring entrepreneurs, researchers, innovators, and technology-driven startups to transform ideas into viable businesses and scalable solutions.As part of the initiative, the civic body has floated a Request for Proposal (RFP) to appoint a consultant for the establishment, operation, and management of the incubation centre. The civic body has invited bids from interested agencies.A civic official, while talking to TOI, said the NIC will be developed through a collaborative model involving research institutions, technology partners, industry experts, and the municipal administration. “The centre is envisioned as a platform that will nurture innovation by providing startups and entrepreneurs with access to mentorship, technical expertise, research support, and industry networks,” the official said.The incubation centre will enable innovators to develop prototypes, validate business ideas, and create technology-based solutions capable of addressing urban and societal challenges. Officials said the initiative aligns with the NMC’s broader vision of promoting sustainable economic development while encouraging innovation-led growth in the city.According to the civic administration, the project seeks to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among young professionals and students by creating opportunities in emerging digital and technology sectors. The centre is also expected to support startups working in areas such as urban development, sustainability, smart technologies, and digital services.With rapid technological advancements creating new opportunities across industries, civic officials believe the incubation centre can play a significant role in generating employment, attracting investments, and strengthening Nashik’s position as an emerging hub for innovation and knowledge-based industries. The facility is expected to bridge the gap between academic research, industrial requirements, and market-ready solutions.“The consultant selected through the bidding process will be responsible for setting up the centre, developing its operational framework, attracting startups and partners, and ensuring long-term sustainability of the initiative,” the civic official said.Welcoming the move, Manish Rawal, vice-president of the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA), said, “This is a positive initiative by NMC to encourage and promote startups. It will provide a much-needed platform for budding entrepreneurs and innovators, while also generating new ideas and solutions that can benefit society.
