No injuries following RCMP response to report of possible weapon at Moncton football game

Police say during altercation with several youths, one 'displayed what was believed to be a weapon'

Police are investigating following an incident with youths that possibly involved a weapon during a football game in Moncton on Friday night.

RCMP Cpl. Luc Picard wrote in an email that Codiac RCMP members responded around 8 pm to a disturbance involving several youths at a football game at École L'Odyssée.

"During the altercation, one of the individuals involved displayed what was believed to be a weapon," Picard wrote.

"No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The suspect fled the area before police arrived, and officers are actively pursuing investigative leads to identify and locate the individual."

Picard said the investigation is ongoing.

The RCMP said in a social media post at 9:09 PM Friday that they were currently on scene of a police operation on promenade Léopold-F.-Belliveau in Moncton.

The release did not provide any details but advised the public to stay away.

Around 10:38 pm, RCMP posted on social media to say that the operation had concluded, but gave no other details.

On Friday evening, families with kids in the Anglophone East School District received an email from Superintendent Randolph MacLean about a "situation" at a high school football game between École L'Odyssée and Moncton High School.

The incident took place at École L'Odyssée field, which is on promenade Léopold-F.-Belliveau in Moncton.

"We are aware of a situation that occurred this evening during the high school football game between Moncton High School and École L'Odyssée at École L'Odyssée field," MacLean wrote.

"We are in communication with and fully cooperating with police as they respond to the situation. The site has been evacuated, and based on the information available to us at this time, there were no injuries and everyone is safe."

MacLean wrote that no further details could be shared as it is an "active police matter."

"We understand that situations like this can be concerning for students, families and our school communities. We are grateful for the quick response of police and school staff and for the cooperation of everyone in attendance."
